Nice to read about  east fortune and the melville motor club. i used to go down on a sunday in all weathers with tom dickie and mose to help to clear the track. All these years ago Ian dickie and i started racing side cars having raced solos. In our first race we came 8th out of 40 chairs.I just rememberd i built the first toilets at east fortune ,I would think the toilets woul be lost in the wind  by now.                                                                                                                                       Bill Borthwick

Hi
I remember back in 1975 when Tom Dickie came to my dad as he was Charge Nurse at East Fortune Hospital ward 16 and the powers that be in the hospital had been asked if the sound from the bike's would disturb the patients and as my old man was the one of the senior people on staff and his ward was one of the nearest to the track.  Tom Took my dad and as i was there me as well to show where the track would run on Old Davie Pate's land.  We went round in a car I think I was p**d off I wanted to go on a bike but all the Wire fences where all over the runways and there was a lot of crap on it and in some of the places that was real crap sheep's to be more to the point.  My old man said they would have to have test day and take it from there.  I was roped in to help sweep all that crap and rubbish up oh happy 1975 summer and winter haha,  and even got a we job on race day's to run from the old bus to the caravan with the results so the winners could get can of oil or whatever.  I was told I could come to any meet and get in free.  I don't think that still stands only joking.  I went of to the army and came back on leave and I did come over to say hi to the young ladies in the caravan I must admit I did not pay when I did that as there was a way to get in through the wood from my house.  We did let your marshells know when we say about 20 30 people trying the same.  It was back in the late 70's.  My old man was a Red Cross Medic first aider  and he was on duty the day a side car came past the start line at the bus the driver did not realise his mate had fallen off and as he came down to the right then left before the hairpin bend the sidecar flipped and he scudded over the grass into the crowd the sidecar collided with a family the driver was all over them trying to help not realising his back was shredded my dad told him to shut up and sit down, my old man thought he was going to get a thump but the copilot and took him to get seen by another first aider I cant remember but I don't think other than a couple of broken bone,s and some scrapes it was all sorted fast {It could have been a lot worse} dad told me the driver came up to him at the next meet and said sorry and thanks you know what I mean.  any way it was nice to see this site.   Brill.  Hope you like this
